Small, sharp experiments in local-first software, open networks and automation.
Prototype
Quill
A local-first notebook that syncs between your devices with no server in the middle.
Quill keeps every note as a document on your own device. Edits merge automatically when your devices meet, whether over a direct peer connection or a simple relay that only ever sees sealed bytes.
The goal is a notebook that is instant, works on a plane, and is still yours if the project disappears.
Encrypted messaging over open relays, with an identity that is a key you hold.
Courier explores what messaging looks like when no company owns the address book. Your identity is a keypair; relays are interchangeable couriers; moving house costs nothing.
Open questions: key recovery that does not reintroduce a landlord, and discovery without a central directory.
A local agent runner that keeps every action in a plain-text log you can read.
Scribe runs automations on your own machine with the narrowest permissions that do the job. Every action is appended to a human-readable log, and anything irreversible waits for your seal.
It is the rules from the essay, written as software.
